2019 Royal Agricultural Winter Fair continues

November 7, 2019

The 2019 Royal Agricultural Winter Fair (RAWF) is currently on until Nov 10.

The fair takes place every November in the city of Toronto. Attendees are invited to celebrate agriculture and local food from across the country. The fair is held at Exhibition Place in Toronto, Ont. This year, it runs from Nov. 1 to 10, 2019. About 300,000 people are expected each year. Click here for tickets to attend.

See below for a recap of Dairy Farmers of Ontario's (DFO) RAWF events and programming so far, as well as a show schedule at the bottom:

On Tuesday, Nov. 5, DFO hosted a 2020 Milk Calendar launch event to kick off the new calendar. The event featured an interactive four-course cooking class led by renowned chef, television personality and DFO ambassador, David Rocco. Another DFO ambassador, Afrim Pristine, who runs Cheese Boutique, his family business, was also present to host the class.

More culinary content is available on the new website.

Ontario residents can now sign up to receive the 2020 Milk Calendar.

DFO's dairy education team, who run the Elementary School Milk Program, exhibits at the RAWF every year. Similar to previous years, DFO has a dairy education footprint in the Lower Annex at the Ex. There are six breeds of live dairy cattle, with three milking demonstrations throughout the day. Surrounding the dairy education footprint, there are interactive stations for guests to learn more about the dairy industry. The booth is staffed by DFO's dairy educators in addition to a team of herdspeople who ensure 24-7 animal care.

RAWF attendees who visit DFO's booth include consumers, industry representatives, ag enthusiasts, students of all ages and school staff who are curious to learn more about dairy. DFO head office staff, dairy educators and volunteers are happy to interact with attendees and show them the cows and displays, and answer any questions.

The Food & Nutrition forum was at the RAWF in the Enercare Centre on Wednesday, Nov. 6. The theme was Sustainability and the Future of Agriculture, with many speakers discussing sustainability-related topics. In the afternoon session, for the topic "From My Farm to Your Table," Bonnie den Haan, a dairy producer and processor from Sheldon Creek Dairy and DFO board member, spoke on the group panel along with a bean farmer and egg farmer. For more information on the forum and its speakers, view the poster and agenda.

To learn more about DFO board member Bonnie den Haan, see her biography here.

Also similar to last year, DFO has a commercial footprint in Hall A at the Ex. The Ontario Dairy Market provides consumers with the opportunity to sample and sell their local dairy products.

DFO is a sponsor of the Cheese & Butter Competition. At this year's RAWF, earlier in the week, local Ontario processor Thornloe won Grand Champion Butter for its grass-fed unsalted butter.

DFO is a proud supporter of the TD Canadian 4-H Dairy Classic, which was held on Nov. 4 and 5, 2019.
