About DFO - Corporate Services

  The Corporate Services division deals with all budgeting, financial and accounting operations within Dairy Farmers of Ontario.

The division is also responsible for office management, personnel recruitment and records management. This involves maintaining a confidential file for each producer, transporter and processor in the province.

One major aspect of its responsibilities is co-ordinating the billing and payment for milk from about 2,100 farm pickups daily. The division bills processing plants more than $100 million monthly, or $1.9 billion annually, and in turn pays that money out to producers. The division also manages payments to transporters and is charged with collecting and paying out money from quota purchases and sales. It deals directly with the Farm Credit Corporation, banks and other lenders on behalf of some producers.

As well, staff review processor milk utilization declarations and contract auditors to audit all processing plants on a regular basis. The division also reports details of milk sales regularly to the Canadian Dairy Commission.

The division prepares quarterly financial statements for Dairy Farmers of Ontario and each of its five divisions. It prepares the financial information for the annual report and co-ordinates and responds to information requests in conjunction with the regular audit of its financial records. It also reviews annually all Dairy Producer Committee budgets and financial statements.

As well this division is responsible for providing computer and information-based services to all DFO divisions.

This includes:

• Applications development for core business functions such as component and quality test, milk pickup, quota exchange/accounting, billing and payment, Producer/Transporter/Plant Administration, DFOWeb and MILKLINE.

• Server and end-user support and for various platforms

• Internet/Intranet server support and web page development

• Support for the Local Area Network and network devices

• Disaster Recovery Planning

• Provide Project Management processes and over-sight for all DFO projects

Central to this is the collection, maintenance, and processing of information regarding milk pickups and deliveries for the purpose of producer and transporter payment, and plant billing.

The division works closely with all DFO divisions to assist in developing new systems and making modifications to existing systems. Other business partners include the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, University of Guelph, CanWest DHI, Canadian Dairy Network, and Semex Alliance.The Finance and Administration Division deals with all budgeting, financial and accounting operations within Dairy Farmers of Ontario.
