Encouraging New Products

Last Updated: May 10, 2012

If a processor has a new product that is currently not available in Ontario/Canada, or their product replaces imported products, then they may make application to the CDC for a DDPIP contract. The Domestic Dairy Product Innovation Program (DDPIP) is a national program that is administered by the Canadian Dairy Commission (CDC).The contract, if approved, provides the holder with access to a volume of milk for a 3-year period. At the end of the three years, DFO will issue the company a volume of PSQ equivalent to the total volume utilized in the last year of the contract or the average of the last two years whichever is greater. The CDC in turn issues an equivalent volume of production quota to Ontario to ensure that the volume utilized by the new plant does not take milk away from existing processors.
