Ont. dairy producers to celebrate Local Food Week

June 3, 2019

Ontario will be celebrating its sixth annual Local Food Week from June 3 to 9.

Local Food Week was established under the Local Food Act, 2013, to allow Ontario producers, farm organizations, agribusinesses, government partners and consumers to come together to celebrate and promote the food produced throughout the province.

This year, Ontario dairy producers will be contributing to several events taking place during the week:

Food truck event

Farm & Food Care Ontario (FFCO) is planning a unique event called Farmers & Food Trucks. The event will be held on June 5 from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Catalyst 137—a technology hub in the Kitchener-Waterloo region.

The event will feature food trucks serving local meals, and visitors will have a chance to meet a farmer and take photos to share on social media using the hashtag #loveONTfood.

Spring farm tour

All food writers and bloggers, professional chefs and home economists are welcome to attend FFCO's annual spring farm tour on June 13 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The day will begin with a tailgate party, providing participants with a chance to meet local farmers who are passionate about what they do, and learn more about food and farming in Ontario.

Highlights of the tour include a stop at Sheldon Creek Dairy and a Taste of Ontario gourmet lunch, as well as a second stop that’s still to be determined.

For more information, visit FFCO’s website and view the flyer.
