Dairy representatives join World Milk Day movement

May 31, 2019

Dairy nutrition, community and animal care are just some of the themes that will be highlighted on social media around the world for World Milk Day (WMD) on June 1.

Dairy Farmers of Canada (DFC) and milk marketing boards across the country are joining the global social media rally on June 1 to celebrate WMD.

Co-ordinated by Global Dairy Platform, the campaign is taking place on social media, with mobilizers, or dairy champions, helping push positive dairy messages across several social media platforms.

This year, Global Dairy Platform started the celebration earlier with an Enjoy Dairy Rally, which took place from May 29 to 31, encouraging dairy mobilizers to champion the industry on social media or hold various events leading up to WMD.

DFC is using the opportunity to join other dairy champions from around the world and promote positive messages about dairy on social media using the hashtags #WorldMilkDay and #EnjoyDairy.

WMD aims to celebrate the important contributions of the dairy sector to:

  • Good food, health and nutrition;
  • Producers caring responsibly for their communities, land and animals;
  • Sustainable dairy practices;
  • The industry’s contribution to economic development and livelihoods.

In 2001, the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations chose June 1 as the day to celebrate milk every year. For more information, see the official FAO World Milk Day website, with events and photos from around the world.
